Okhla MLA held in sexual abuse case
AAP legislator Amanatullah Khan was arrested on
Wednesday in a sexual harassment case filed by one of his relatives. A city
court later sent him to a day's judicial custody .
Two days
ago, Khan, who is out on bail in another case of molestation and criminal
intimidation, had offered to “surrender“ but was turned away by Jamia Nagar
police.
Senior
police officers said that the Okhla MLA
was asked to join investigations at the DCP office in Sarita Vihar. Khan was
questioned for some time after which he was placed under arrest.
An FIR
was filed against Khan at the Jamia Nagar police station on September 10 by the
relative who alleged that he had sexually harassed her. The complainant accused
Khan of pressuring her to establish physical relations with him. Khan has
denied these allegations, claiming that he was being framed by police. She al
so submitted a CD and a pen drive to the cops, which contained recordings of
alleged conversations between the MLA and her.
Khan was
booked under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent
to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the
modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 498A (husband or relative of
husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty).
After his
arrest, Khan tweeted: “Came here at (the) DCP office Sarita Vihar for general
discussion. But they arrested me.“
This is
the second time in three months that Khan has been arrested on complaints by
women. He was arrested on July 24 on a complaint by a Jasola resident who
alleged that he tried to mow her down with his vehicle after she visited his
residence to raise the issue of power cuts.
The case
was registered under IPC sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation)
and 509 (intention to insult the modesty of a woman or eve teasing). Khan was
released on bail on July 28.
